Honeger's KING DAVID

  • Gammage Auditorium 1200 South Forest Avenue Tempe, AZ, 85281 United States (map)

I will be concluding my performing time with the Herberger Institute as Adult David in Honegger's great Dramatic Psalm King David at ASU Gammage!

The Arizona State University Chamber Singers and Concert Choir will present Les Six composer Arthur Honegger's King David (Le roi David).  Described as a "dramatic psalm" this oratorio details the life of the biblical king David from "the time he was a shepherd, to his conquests in battle, his rise to power, his lust for another man’s wife, his agony over his son’s death, his disobedience to God, and finally to his own death."  Complete with chamber orchestra, full mixed choir, 2 soprano soloists (Aslief Wilmer, Kyla McCarrell), 2 mezzo-soprano soloists (Miriam Schildkret, Nicole Blumenstein), and myself as the tenor soloist as well as narrators (Professor Carole Fitzpatrick, Paul Gamble) and actress (Kimberly Mumford).  The piece varies in style evoking everything from Gregorian chant to jazz.  Arizona State University Choirs will be presenting the 1923 work at ASU Gammage.
